On Thursday, Artificial intelligence startup Perplexity has officially launched its AI assistant, aiming to compete directly with market leaders like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The newly introduced Perplexity AI Assistant is designed to perform everyday tasks such as setting reminders, booking dinner reservations, and hailing rides on mobile apps. It is now available for Android users on the Google Play Store in 15 languages.
“We’re eager to make the Perplexity AI Assistant available on iOS as well. If Apple grants us the necessary permissions, we’ll expand to that platform,” a spokesperson for Perplexity said.
This launch follows in the footsteps of OpenAI, which recently introduced a similar tool called Tasks for ChatGPT Team and Pro subscribers. Both Perplexity and OpenAI aim to streamline users’ daily routines using AI-driven tools that assist with a variety of tasks.
Tech giants such as Amazon and Apple are also stepping up their efforts to improve their assistant technologies. Last year, Apple enhanced Siri by integrating Apple Intelligence and began collaborating with OpenAI to offer ChatGPT functionality on iPhones. Similarly, Amazon has teased a new version of Alexa, expected to launch soon.
As the race between these tech companies heats up, Perplexity’s AI Assistant positions the startup as a new player to watch in the growing AI assistant market.up.
